First impression, first day formalities, Infrastructure of the Organisation
On my first day at the NGO, I got to witness firsthand what I had only read about so far.

Initially I was nervous because it was my first internship experience. But it didn’t take me long to become comfortable with the atmosphere.

I was assigned a wide array of tasks, mostly including research and administrative work. Apart from this, I also got the opportunity to go for field work.

Main tasks
You can choose the project you want to work on. Most of the projects include field visits. I chose to work on the Lifeline Express and the Community Healthline Initiative.

The Lifeline Express was started to provide on-the-spot diagnostic, medical and advanced surgical treatment for preventive and curative interventions for disabled adults and children for outreach into inaccessible rural areas where medical services are not available.

In the CHI programme I was assisting the staff to conduct the sessions in Palghar district, where we spread awareness amongst the adolescent girls about the changes their body body faces during puberty.

Sex education is a taboo in India and most of the girls were shy when we explained things to them, but later on they told about the problems they faced and we were able to help. Also, I assisted in the programme for reducing the disability through preventive measures.

Work environment and people
My seniors at the NGO were very helpful and supportive. At first, it was almost unbelievable to see their selflessness and dedication towards their cause. They inspired me to do my bit towards the well being of society.

Also, I got to witness the ground realities of the remote villages of India which made me realize how the health sector needs to be developed there. Overall, it was a fulfilling and enriching experience for me and I would always cherish it.

Bad things about the internship

This is a very good experience for understanding ground realities and helping the less privileged, but there’s not much to gain from the perspective of a lawyer.

Stipend
